Termite Invasion in China

A group of apartment residents was left stunned when swarms of termites invaded an apartment block in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality. One of the victims attempt to kill the insects by squirting them with a bottle of insect repellent, but to little avail.

Termites are unique pests that would feed on wood; or anything that contains cellulose. In Malaysia, as well as all over the world, termite infestation is one of the most devastating problems faced by various property owners. As silent destroyers, termites leave no mark of presence up until the damage is done and they could decimate an entire medium-sized property in just within 3 months of entry. The damage caused by termites includes the external structure or the structure of the building itself, which prove costly to numerous people as most insurance policies do not cover termite damage.

As a property owner and investor, it’s essential to ensure that the value of your asset continues to appreciate during the span of time it remains in your possession. Protecting your property is understandably your top priority and this includes keeping natural threats such as termite infestations at bay. Termites populate rapidly and if left unchecked, termite colonies could severely affect the structural integrity of your property and cause costly damages.

Proactive Actions

  • Remove dead trees, stumps, and roots from your property
  • Maintain good ventilation. The venting allows air flow to keep the area dry and be less attractive to termites.
  • Ensure drainage pipes for hot water systems, air conditioners, and taps are not dripping into the soil as moist soil attracts termite
  • Use steel wherever possible, for house frames, footings and fencing
  • Have regular pest inspections, at least once a year
  • Engage professional pest control company for more effective solutions in preventing and monitoring termite infestation
