7 amazing apps to get you through MCO that’s not social media

The end of MCO just around the corner and assuming there’s no extension (hopefully), some of us have already used up all the things we thought would help us get through social distancing. Binging shows and movies on netflix can get tiring after a while and once we’re finished with Netflix, what then? If you’re like me, you’ll take out your phone and spend hours on social media! While social media is a great way to stay connected, that’s not all we could be doing during this MCO. So why not check out these 7 amazing apps while staying at home to save the earth and pick up some new skills!

1.Forest

Forest-App

Forest is an amazing app that helps you stay focused and concentrate on what you’re doing. You set a specific time goal, for example an hour, to focus on studying, working or anything really. During this time, a tree will start to grow but if you leave the app the tree dies. What’s more, you get to collect coins for every successful tree grown and when you spend them, Forest actually helps to plant real life trees! So you get to stay focused and help save the earth!

2.Epic Fit Meals.Co

Epic-Fit-Meals-App

We already know about Grabfood, Food Panda and other food delivery apps but a lot of these have really tempting but super unhealthy options on the app. I’m talking about fast food guys! So one food delivery app that I like is Epic Fit Meals because they actually have really satisfying, Melbourne inspired dishes that are also healthy. Most of us are already feeling the extra kgs from staying at home so this might be something you want to check out.

3.Skimble

Talking about extra kgs, I’ve always been a huge workoutholic. But with the MCO and staying at home, getting the right equipment or workouts can be a little difficult. I actually chanced upon this great exercising app called Workout Trainer by Skimble that suggests exercise routines and it's based on how fit you are! You even have the option of signing up for your own personal trainer though i do have to warn you, it can be a little pricey. Staying healthy is really important during these time so this app is really great for keeping me fit.

4.Tasty

Another thing you could really try is honing your culinary skills! Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to impress your significant other, the easiest way is through their stomachs, and if you don’t have a significant other than make it for yourself #TreatYoSelf! Tasty shouldn’t be unfamiliar to most of us, in fact I guarantee you’ve seen at least one of their videos on Facebook. The Tasty app actually shows you recipes with video guides that are really easy to follow! I really love Japanese food so i’ve actually followed a few of their Japanese dessert recipes and they turned out really great!

5.DuoLingo

Many of us had to put our travel plans on hold for our own safety as well as due to MCO. Your week-long getaway to foreign countries may have been postponed, but that just means more time to prepare. Why not learn a language so you can get around easier when you’re finally exploring a foreign city! I personally love using Duolingo! They have many languages to choose from and I’ve been learning japanese in my free time! They have lessons based on your knowledge level and are really fun to do. They even have mini quizzes to test your knowledge and help you remember what you learnt!

6.Audible

Audible might be familiar to some of us. It’s an amazon company that has millions of books ready for us to explore. The catch is, you don’t read on audible, you listen! Audible provides a lot of audio books from many different genres so if you’ve been hearing good things about a book but you don’t feel like reading, let someone read it to you instead! You even get a free audio book when you first sign up.

7.Games

And finally who can ignore some mobile games! There’s plenty of them on the Google Play or Apple Store so you have plenty of choices to choose from. I personally really enjoy puzzle games and my favourite is Gardenscapes. It’s a simple match three game but everytime you win a level, you get a star! You can then use those stars to make your garden look better which gives you a sense of progression. If puzzle isn’t your cup of tea, there are many types of games out there for all ages, be it young or old. Just remember, you have to practice some self control or it’ll end up the same as spending hours on social media.

The possibility of the MCO being extended is very real and it’s really important to find things to keep us busy. This is really good for our mental health and keeps us motivated to start work once the MCO ends. We also need to remember to take care of our own health! Remember to practice good hand hygiene habits, practice social distancing and together we can overcome Covid-19. Wash your hands and keep safe!
