Paratrechina longicornis
• Workers 2.5 - 3.3 mm long, dark brown.
• Workers size are monomorphic
• One node. Antenna with 12 segments and without club.
• Easily recognized by their extremely long legs and antennae
• Multi - queen colonies
• Swarming can take place at any time of the year
• Trails are not apparent due to their erratic movement. They have a powerful sense of smell and can easily locate food. Feeds on a wide variety of food, including other insects, grease and sweets.
• Swarming characteristics - each colony is very mobile and will readily move from one location to another if conditions become unfavourable. Budding can be the process for the formation of new colonies.
• Nest locations - they can often be found nesting in the soil of potted plants. Their population will greatly increase if moistened debris and sugary substances are available. They will also nest in wall voids and under items stored for long periods of time on the floor.
