Appearance

  • 15 to 35cm in length including tails
  • They have light brown upper coat, white belly and black fur at the tip of the tail.
  • They are the smallest in the Mustelids family.

Lifecycle

  • They average have 4-9 young per litter.
  • Female can breed in the year of their birth when food is abundant.

Habits

  • With their long thin shape, they are adapted to following small prey into the tightest of spaces, including their home burrows.
  • Weasels are not as common as stoats but can still have an impact on smaller native bird populations.
