Public Health has become a buzz word used in very wide context, but what is Public Health? And what is the role of Pest Control in Public Health?
Public Health, therefore, is a broad concept which covers areas such as health care, including vaccination programs, hygiene and sanitation. The Health Promotion Board (HPB) develops campaigns catered to public health such as the National Smoking Control Campaign to raise awareness.
Within the broad spectrum of Public Health, there is a specific role for Pest Control. It is widely known, pests do pose a potential serious health risk. For example the most common of pests, the house fly, carries disease organisms from infected source to humans, when they come in contact with food for human consumption. Diseases that are transferred by pests to humans are referred to as 'vector borne diseases'.
